Painter and architect, Pietro Berrettini — Pietro da Cortona — was, with Bernini and Borromini, one of the three great creators of Baroque Rome. His Triumph of Divine Providence on the vault of Palazzo Barberini glorified the Barberini family with a swirling allegory that seems to punch through the ceiling into the heavens.
